Ron Smith Cllr For Hawick and Hermitage

Cllr Ron Smith was involved with Newcastleton for many years in his role as assistant headteacher at Hawick High School, responsible for primary school liaison, and consequently came to know generations of village pupils and their parents. Elected as one of the three councillors for the Hawick & Hermitage ward in 2007, his work with the village and the surrounding district has focused on issues relating to flooding, patient transport and medical response issues, planning, the school, and tourism.

“I do not hold surgeries as I feel it is better that constituents contact me as soon as a problem emerges rather than waiting. Contacts by phone (01450 378623) or e-mail (rsmith@scotborders.gov.uk) are welcome, and have already managed to help residents with a variety of problems. I will be happy to arrange to visit to discuss any matter. One aspect on which I am especially keen is that village groups should contact me to talk over possible sources of funding for projects.”
